Yesterday is Lost

On a gravel road I’m all alone,
walking along and kicking a stone.
Today is a new, virtual zoo.
Tomorrow is never, just another today.
I could learn from the past, hardly ever do.
Whatever happens today, tomorrow it’s the past.
Today is yesterday, I remember now.
On a gravel road I’m all alone,
walking along and kicking a stone.
Off to school to learn history.
People, places, names, and dates of times I cannot see.
It’s got to be alive for my mind to thrive.
Get a license to drive.  Start a family.
Children all grown, having children of their own.
On a gravel road I’m all alone,
Walking along and kicking a stone.
Yesterday is lost.
        Today is yesterday.
