Old Family Friends

Haven't seen you for years my eyes give way to tears the kind that old family friends shed for each other. Though we lived on opposite sides of the street in the middle we’d  meet with commitment and respect carried proudly on everyone’s feet. Should emergencies arise it came as no surprise that trouble made the head count double at one house or the other. The far side of the street seems a long way away to a child but the older you get the distance appears much less even though you’re further away. Some of us are orphans now and we've survived somehow though it seemed impossible at the time. As old family friends we are with you right now on the other side of the street though our gazes shan’t meet because the distance has increased and some of us can’t see but old family friends just don’t care if we’re not all there in numbers or faculties. Well so long Andy old friend! Please give our love t...

Still I 'Shine

Waken unwise with ‘shine I rise but these still eye sties compromise the ability to see what’s become of me. My butt’s on the toilet and my head in the sink lost half my brain down the drain - I think? Eat a hearty breakfast of chips and coke then top it off with a tailor made smoke. I know what’s in store as I’ve been there before and I unwillingly pay with a long hard day of sweating when it’s cold and not when it’s hot. My head feels scrambled like the eggs I didn’t eat and there’s a cacophonous din entrapped within so that between my ears it’s all I can hear. I fumble, stumble and grumble throughout the day then head back home with two weeks’ pay. Think I’m starting to perk up a bit as my still eye mind is locked on ‘shine and my butt’s looking to sit on any old stool.   Any old stool will do. © David Girard 27/09/19

As a Child Grows

Once a child has grown it may apparently become a parent. Apparently a parent for the first time became I. Apparently transparent was the where and when but not why. Although all the ingredients were there the recipe eluded me like gallus gallus domesticus I started from scratch apparently and a batch was produced for a child to hatch at the end of  trimester  three. The first came a wee bit early and the second followed suit but the third batch was not a yolk because there were two and they decided to hatch soon after trimester three’s debut. A little further down the road it started again from scratch and almost three trimesters later the fifth one hatched. Of course gallus gallus domesticus is just a metaphor as I’m that homo sapien wandering and wondering even more about the complexities and mysteries rife in this life full of inspiration and bliss, trepidation and fear as I ponder five grown childre...
